Across the Tech Pond: A New Podcast Joins the Tech Talks Network

A new voice is joining the Tech Talks Network. Across the Tech Pond (ATP) brings together three seasoned technology editors from both sides of the Atlantic to break down the biggest conferences, industry news, and conversations shaping enterprise IT.

I sit down with David Marshall and Antony Savvas in a show that promises a fresh, honest take on the technology agenda that drives business forward.

Why Across the Tech Pond?

Between us, we’ve clocked up decades of travel to industry events across the US and Europe. From sprawling vendor showcases in Las Vegas to tightly focused channel gatherings in Barcelona or Berlin, we’ve walked the expo floors, sat through the keynotes, and spent hours in backrooms with executives, engineers, and analysts.

Now we’re bringing those insights together in one place. Across the Tech Pond is not about polished press releases. It’s about reflecting on what we actually see and hear on the ground, and sharing it with listeners who want an unvarnished perspective.

Episode One: VMware Explore Las Vegas

Our first episode dives into VMware Explore 2025, staged at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. This was Broadcom’s most significant moment since completing its $61 billion acquisition of VMware. Expectations were high, and the reactions were mixed.

We unpack:

  • Hock Tan’s keynote: Did the Broadcom CEO reassure customers and partners, or did he sharpen the divide between large enterprise accounts and everyone else?

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9: Positioned as the foundation for private cloud repatriation, AI workloads, and developer productivity. But is it enough to compete with AWS and Azure?

  • Customer signals: Walmart took the spotlight, but lawsuits involving Tesco and other long-standing customers tell a more complicated story.

  • Show floor atmosphere: Attendance felt lighter, several prominent vendors were absent, and the closing party lacked the buzz of past years. Yet the conversations about private AI, compliance, and security were anything but quiet.

What We Learned

The consensus from Vegas? Broadcom’s vision for private cloud is bold and timely. CIOs facing soaring cloud bills and compliance headaches are ready to listen. However, if Broadcom wants to carry the entire VMware community with it, the company must demonstrate that small and mid-sized customers are more than just passengers on the journey.

Listen and Join the Conversation

This is just the beginning. In future episodes, we’ll cover more major conferences, spotlight the biggest news stories, and invite technology leaders into the conversation.

Across the Tech Pond is now live on all major podcast platforms. You can also find it on the Tech Talks Network.

If you see us at a conference, whether in Europe, Asia or the US, come and say hello. This is a dialogue, not a monologue, and we aim to incorporate as many diverse perspectives as possible.
